Certified Food Protection Manager
The Certified Food Protection Manager (CFPM) requirement by the Northeast Texas Public Health District helps maintain health standards and ensure food safety compliance.
- Person in Charge: The Person in Charge (PIC) must be a CFPM and be present during the establishment's operating hours.
- Certificate: The CFPM certificate must be visible or readily accessible onsite for Health Inspections.
- Certification: Certification is obtained by passing an exam approved by the TX DSHS or ANSI-Accredited provider. (List : https://www.dshs.texas.gov/licensing-certified-food-manager-training-programs)
- Validity: The certification is valid for five (5) years.
Basic Food Handler
All food-handling employees must obtain a Food Handler’s Certificate, as required by the Northeast Texas Public Health District. It is the responsibility of the person in charge to ensure employees are certified. Classroom Course: NET Health offers a state-accredited course, providing certificates valid across Texas.
- Requirement: Texas requires all food establishment employees to have Food Handler Certification within 30 days of employment, unless they have a Certified Food Manager certificate.
Option 1: On-Site Class
- English classes available Monday-Friday with a minimum of 20 students.
- To schedule: Call (903) 535-0037 with two weeks' notice for location evaluation.
- Registration: Submit the roster and payment one week before the class.
- Cost: $20 per student (non-refundable, pre-payment required).
Option 2: Online Class
Effective January 1, 2016
- Local health jurisdictions no longer collect fees for ANSI-accredited food handler certificates.
- Employers must keep food worker certificates and ensure they are available for inspector review.
