FUNCTION:
-Provide advanced breastfeeding training and education to WIC Program professionals and participants. Breastfeeding counseling session will be performed in person or by telephone. Assist Breastfeeding Coordinator in monthly peer counselor meeting.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES TO PERFORM IN THIS POSITION:
-Knowledge of breastfeeding and lactation
-Drug Nutrient Interaction and Breastfeeding
-Federal regulations and state policies governing the WIC Program
-One-year commitment to contract is preferred.
-Currently hold a licensure as a Board-Certified Lactation Consultant
-Able to share enthusiasm concerning breastfeeding.
-Knowledge of breastfeeding techniques and problem solving.
-Assesses the need for client referrals.
-Effectively communicates with participants and staff
-Work with individuals of varying socioeconomic backgrounds
-Communicate well, written and verbal
-Assess program activities and develop solutions to problems
EDUCATION:
-Must provide proof of license as a Certified Lactation Consultant prior to working.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
-Must be able to lift 25 pounds and stretch to load/unload breastfeeding equipment (pumps, etc)
-Must be able to travel within WIC Project area.
